A Step Toward Hope, Healing, and Livelihood

Pahel is a compassionate initiative by Altruist, dedicated to supporting individuals living with mental illness—particularly those who have experienced homelessness, abandonment, or social isolation. True to its name, Pahel (which means “an initiative” or “a beginning”) represents a fresh start and a pathway toward rebuilding lives with dignity, purpose, and economic independence.

At its heart, Pahel is more than just a rehabilitation program—it’s a movement toward inclusion, empowerment, and recovery through skill-building, community support, and meaningful engagement.

Our Vision

To foster a society where individuals recovering from mental illness are empowered with the tools, con-fidence, and support they need to lead fulfilling lives—emotionally, socially, and economically.

Our Mission

To provide vocational training, psychosocial support, and livelihood opportunities to individuals in recovery, helping them:

  • Rebuild self-confidence
  • Regain a sense of identity
  • Achieve economic independence

Pahel believes recovery is not limited to medical treatment; it must also involve building life skills, encouraging community interaction, and restoring a sense of dignity and belonging.

What We Are

Pahel adopts a person-centred, recovery-oriented approach that integrates emotional healing with practical support. Our key offerings include:

Identification & Inclusion

We work with individuals who are clinically stable or on the path to recovery—especially those living in community-based mental health homes—to identify their interests and aspirations.

Skill-Based Vocational Training

Training is personalized and adapted to each individual’s capabilities and pace.

Sheltered Workspaces

Safe, stigma-free environments where individuals can work productively, grow in confidence, and explore their creativity.

Life Skills & Psychosocial Support

Ongoing support for emotional well-being, resilience, communication skills, and everyday functioning—all essential to long-term recovery.

Social Enterprise & Sustainability

Pahel promotes small-scale livelihood ventures to help generate income and support the long-term sustainability of both the individuals and the program itself.

Current Engagements

At present, individuals involved in Altruist’s Home Again Project are actively participating in:

  • Sorting, perfuming, and packaging incense sticks
  • Making handmade rakhis
  • Preparing authentic spice mixes (tea and vegetable masalas)
  • Creating eco-friendly paper bags and other handcrafted items

These activities are more than just work—they are pathways to financial empowerment, personal pride, and renewed social connections.
